GUWAHATI: Keeping in view the rising cases of casualties from COVID-19 infection in the city, the Kamrup (Metropolitan) administration has made arrangements for seven more cremation grounds designated for COVID-19 victims. Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu has in an order issued on Sunday said the move has been undertaken for smooth disposal of the bodies.

The seven new designated cremation grounds are: Ulubari electrical crematorium; Basistha Bhootnath cremation ground; Botahghuli cremation ground at Panjabari; Jalukbari cremation ground; Garigaon Kabarsthan; Jalukbari Kabarsthan; and Katahbari Kabarsthan.

The administration has declared the seven cremation grounds in the district as 'Designated Cremation Grounds' to cremate/ dispose COVID-19 death cases of the district in addition to the already designated four grounds; namely at Ulubari Cremation Ground, Bhootnath Muktidham, Athgaon Kabarsthan and Islampur Kabarsthan.

The Circle Officers concerned will intimate the Management Committees of the designated cremation grounds about the decision of the administration and will supervise the cremation process in their respective areas.
