GUWAHATI: Various Muslim organizations across the State have issued guidelines for observing fast during the month of Ramzan, which is set to begin on April 23, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The bodies have appealed the people to have their sehri (meal before sunrise) and iftar (evening meal to end fast) at home and also offer Tarabi Namaz (evening prayer) from within their houses only.

Assam Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi greeted the people of Assam belonging to Mohammedan Community on the occasion. In a message on Friday, Prof. Mukhi said, “My warm greetings to the Muslim brethren of Assam and North East on the occasion of Ramzan. Ramadan is a month for the Muslim community to observe dawn to dusk fast to cleanse the soul and come closer to God (Allah)”.

He also said, “May this holy month of Ramzan bind us all together and spread peace, harmony and brotherhood in our state and our nation”.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal extended his warm wishes to the Muslim brethren through a statement issued on Friday. CM Sonowal said that the Ramzan is a holy month during which the followers of Islam endure hardship and devote themselves to praying to the almighty. He hoped that the observation will strengthen peace and tranquility and reinforce the bond of age-old harmony in society.

Various other leaders also extended their greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion.

AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) president Atul Bora and working president Keshav Mahanta said that the Ramzan month will bring peace, happiness and harmony among the people. They appealed the people to restrict themselves to their houses on the occasion.

Assam Minority Development Board (AMDB) chairman Mominul Aowal and Assam Jamiat Ulama president Badruddin Ajmal also wished the people and appealed them to stay indoors.
