Myanmarese supari seized; eight held in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A team of the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) from the Hatigaon Police Station, along with Basistha Police Station intercepted three cars at the Basistha crossing and seized suspected Myanmarese supari that was being smuggled from Meghalaya to Bijni I the Chirang district.

According to police sources, a total of seven quintals of supari was found hidden on the floor of the cars, adding that eight smugglers have been arrested.

The sources identified the smugglers as Deepak Arjya of Bijni, Idris Ali of Bongaigaon, Ikramul Hussain of Bongaigaon, Anu Ali of Bijni, Ujair Islam of Bongaigaon, Nasiruddin of Bijni, Bishal Arjya of Fatasil Ambari and Saddam Hussain of Bijni.

The three cars and seven mobile phones were also seized by the police.
