Naming of Alternate Road to Kamakhya Temple As "Swami Muktananda Saraswati Path" Withdrawn

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has withdrawn the proposed naming of the alternate road to Kamakhya temple through Pandu Ghat as "Swami Muktananda Saraswati Path".

This comes after objections were filed by citizens against the naming of the road as "Swami Muktananda Saraswati Path".

Earlier, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) in a public notice asked people to file any objection against chritening of the road withing 15 days. The chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government would open a portal where citizens can apply for changing the names of their localities.

Meanwhile, taking to Twitter, state minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Irrigation, Ashok Singhal wrote, "The naming of the alternate road to Kamakhya Dham through Pandu Ghat as 'Swami Muktananda Saraswati Path' has been withdrawn with immediate effect owing to public objections. We respect public opinions!"

The notification states, "With reference to the subject cited above, I am directed to request you kindly to withdraw the Public Notice issued vide  No. GCL/04/2022/05 dated 14/2/2022. for naming the altemate road to Kamakhya Dham through Pandu Ghat as Swami Muktarranda Saraswari Path and stop further necessary action on the matter without any further delay. This is issued under the instruction of the Hon'ble Minister, Department of Housing & Urban Affairs, (DoHUA), Govt.of Assam."

It is to be mentioned here that post the publication from the GMC in the newspaper,  many expressed their resentments and demanded the state government to name the road after some icons of the state instead of Swami Muktananda Saraswati.
