GUWAHATI: The national conference of CAs (Chartered Accountants) was virtually inaugurated on Wednesday.

Member of Parliament Suresh Prabhu was the 'Guest of Honour' while Suranjana Dutta, GM SBI, North Eastern Region, inaugurated the mega event with CA Nihar N Jambusaria, President ICAI, CA (Dr) Debashis Mitra, Vice President of ICAI and a host of Central Council and Regional Council members and Managing Committee members of the organising branch.

Addressing the House, MP Prabhu said that the CAs are partners in nation building and their role in safeguarding the economy of the country is very significant. He further said that great responsibility lies on the CA fraternity for ensuring that the economy of the country is safeguarded against the ills of black marketing, hoarding, corruption, etc.

Delivering the welcome address, Chairman of the Guwahati Branch, CA. Kamal Mour said that the three-day conference will explore the future of this profession and also find an era of newer opportunities in this drastically-changing technological and legal environment and is titled "Prarambh". He also prayed for the wellbeing of all the members and their families in this excruciatingly tough time of COVID-19 pandemic.

ICAI President, CA N. N. Jambusaria presented his thoughts on the profession, the opportunities that lie ahead of us in the ever-changing and dynamic contours of the profession. He also evaluated the readiness of the professionals in embracing the change. CA Babu Abraham Kallivayalil, Chairman of Professional Development Committee of ICAI also expressed his thoughts on the theme of the conference.

The session also witnessed an inspiring address by the 'Guest of Honour', Suranjana Dutta, GM SBI. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included the Vice President of ICAI, CA (Dr) D. Mitra – who also presented their thoughts on the conference.

The e-souvenir of the conference was released and Members' e-directory of the Guwahati Branch was also launched on the occasion.

CA. Swati Tejawat, Chairperson of the Media & Publicity Committee for the Conference informed the media that the Guwahati Branch organizes a conference of this scale every year; and it is an excellent avenue for the members to get a perspective on diverse and complex statutes. She further informed that the three days of this conference shall prove to be an excellent learning opportunity and fellowship platform for all the participants, stated a press release.
