GUWAHATI: The two-day cease-work by state government employees concluded. Teachers and government employees all over the state ended their strike on Wednesday under the All Assam Government NPS Employees Association (AAGNPSEA), reiterating the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and cancellation of the National Pension System (NPS).
According to Achyutananda Hazarika, President of AAGNPSEA, "NPS was introduced by the state government on February 1, 2005, and it is not working for the benefit of the employees. We always demanded the cancellation of NPS and the restoration of OPS. The government approved the Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG), but there have been no positive steps regarding the restoration of the OPS. Therefore, we have been engaged in the strike for two days and submitted a memoranda to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister."
