GUWAHATI: The Gauhati University National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell and the Goalpara College NSS Unit jointly organized Martyrs' Day to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi through a webinar, stated a press release.

Inaugurating the webinar, Dr Subhash Barman, principal of Goalpara College, mentioned that everyone should follow the path of Mahatma Gandhi and NSS volunteers should carry forward the Gandhian philosophy to the society.

Attending as chief guest Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director of Students' Welfare & Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Gauhati University, highlighted the Gandhian principles and the great contributions of Mahatma Gandhi to the people of India through non-violence. Dr Kakati further mentioned that Gandhi put forward four main goals before youth for humanity, so as to move towards its destiny. These are swaraj, non-violence, swadeshi and sarvodaya and NSS fraternity should carry forward his contributions to all corners of the society. Resource person Dr Hemanta Kumar Kalita, head of the department of the Department of Philosophy, Goalpara College, spoke on the topic 'Gandhian Philosophy of Sarvodaya' and said that Sarvodaya is a term meaning 'Universal Uplift' or 'Progress of All', which was first coined by Mahatma Gandhi and Gandhi used the ideal of his own political philosophy for overall growth of Indian people through social, political and economic programmes.

The webinar was moderated by Dr Jugabrat Das, NSS Programme Officer, Goalpara College. Around 200 participants attended the webinar.
