National Sports Day celebrated at 1st Bn SSB Sonapur campus

 GUWAHATI: To commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand Singh, the hockey wizard of India, National Sports Day under the theme 'Sports are an enabler to an inclusive and fit society' was held on the 1st Bn SSB Sonapur campus.

Competition in various sports events has been continuously conducted since August 21. The programme began with an oath-taking ceremony to spare at least 30 minutes daily for any sports event. Further, a hockey penalty shootout between the 1st Bn SSB Sonapur and Frontier Headquarters Guwahati teams was held. R. K. Bhumbla, IG, Ftr Hqrs SSB Guwahati, delivered a speech on the importance of games and sports in our daily lives. He also recalled the contribution, determination, and extraordinary achievement of legendary idol Major Dhyan Chand Singh, appealed to this young generation to take up hockey as a sport event, and talked about the benefits of incorporating sports and physical activities into our day-to-day lives. Prizes were distributed to the position holders at various events. B. S. Jaswal, DIG (Admn), Frontier Hqrs SSB Guwahati, Arvind Verma, Commandant, Frontier Hqrs SSB Guwahati, and Anuj Kumar, Offg. Commandant, 1st Bn SSB Sonapur, along with other officers and officials of all ranks, attended the 12th Rashtriya Khel Diwas celebration, stated a press release.
