GUWAHATI: A National Webinar on New Education Policy and the future of English Studies in India was organized by the Department of English in collaboration with IQAC, Lanka Mahavidyalaya on August 11.

Distinguished speakers were Professor G. Baskaran from School of English and Foreign Languages, Gandhigram University, Tamilnadu, Professor Moon Moon Mazumdar from Department of English, NEHU, Shillong and Dr Vinod Kumar Singh from the Department of English, University of Delhi. The welcome address was given by Dr Anuradha Chaudhuri, Head, Department of English and Coordinator of the Webinar.

Principal, Lanka Mahavidyalaya, Dr Amarjit Singh Bhui inaugurated the event. Dr Anil Kumar Saikia from the Department of Economics and Convenor, Cultural Development Cell, IQAC of the College performed a Borgeet as the inaugural song. The programme was anchored by Sushmita Singh and review of the session was delivered by Gobinda Dey, both being Assistant Professors of the Department of English. IQAC Coordinator, Dr Lukendra Kakati also spoke on the occasion. All the three resource persons made a threadbare analysis of the topic from their own perspectives and on its various aspects. They left a hopeful note on the future of English Studies in India at the end.

The organizing committee expressed their thankfulness to all the renowned speakers, participants joining from across the country and representing various disciplines and specially Dr Dwijen Sharma, Associate Professor of English from NEHU, Tura Campus for all his help and goodwill to make the Webinar a success. Hemanta Bora from the IT department and Joyshree Boruah, technical staff of the college extended technical support to the webinar.
