GUWAHATI: Cadet Under Officer Nepo Moirangthem of 50 Assam Air Squadron NCC is joining the Indian Air Force (IAF) today, after getting selected through the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT), stated a press release.
He will be trained at the Air Force Academy for one year before getting commissioned to the IAF as an officer.
Hailing from India's North-East, the dedicated and concerted efforts of the cadet has finally paid off. He cleared the written exam with flying colours scoring high marks. The cadet cleared his Service Selection Board (SSB) on September 10, 2021 from 5 Air Force Selection Board. He was the only candidate recommended from his batch of 54 candidates. He also cleared the tough medical examinations from Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), New Delhi and made it to the final merit list.
Recognizing his potential, he was fully encouraged, guided, trained and supported by his Commanding Officer, Group Captain Robin Vishoyi to prepare for the entrance exams to get into the Armed forces as an officer. The cadet made the unit and his Commanding Officer proud by securing 36th position in the overall order of merit, out of a total of 238 male candidates who got selected in the SSB, on all-India basis.
The cadet said during his farewell speech "I got motivated to join the IAF only after joining the NCC, through 50 Assam Air Squadron. I got an opportunity to observe the work culture of the IAF from close quarters. Being the unit senior, I had frequent interactions with my CO, where I used to observe him very closely and learnt many invaluable lessons from him which I have inculcated in my life and over a period of time made it a way of life. It has helped me immensely to develop the Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) required to clear the SSB. This is the basic reason for me to be able to secure good marks and good position in the final merit list of SSB. I thank NCC and my CO for shaping my life".
The cadet was an asset to the unit. As part of the NCC activities and requirements he participated in article writing competition organised at Director General, NCC in the year 2021 and has won the first prize at all-India level. He was also an ace aeromodeller of the unit. He has constructed many aero models in the unit and flown them himself. He has flown one such aero model in the Air Show at Shillong ALG (Advanced Landing Ground), conducted by Eastern Air Command during their annual Air festival in 2019.
Despite his poor economic background, he was able to overcome the difficulties through his exemplary hard work, dedication, motivation and determination. All the other cadets of the unit have got highly motivated by his numerous achievements and are trying to emulate him and join the Armed forces as officers so that they may also be able to serve the country.
50 Assam Air Sqn NCC is proud that one more brave heart has joined to serve this beautiful country and wishes him good luck and many happy landings.
