GUWAHATI: A city-based NGO named "Helping Hearts" along with the Assam Police Commando Battalion distributed packets of dry ration amongst the villagers in the vicinity of the Mandakata Commando Battalion Camp, on Sunday.
The distribution took place under the personal supervision of the Commandant of the Commando Battalion, Ranjan Bhuyan and the core committee members of the Helping Hearts, viz. Pankaj Surana, Mukesh Achantani, Ashish Jalan and Pankaj Bansal.
A total number of 500 packets, each containing rice, pulses, salt, mustard oil, haldi, onions, Potato and a bathing soap, were distributed in the villages near the camp, namely Bata, Fuloon, Manikpur Baghaan and Mandakatta.
The ration was distributed by Ranjan Bhuyan. In order to ensure that the ration reaches the needy, the battalion had done surveys beforehand and prepared a list of villagers who would need assistance with food and rations. "Helping Hearts", is feeding an average of 2,000 people with nutritious cooked food on a daily basis since the lockdown began and plans to continue the initiative till the lockdown gets over and life is back to normal.
