GUWAHATI: A ‘No Entry’ sign placed in the middle of a busy road has stirred up heated emotions among the daily commuters of Sewali Path in Hatigaon here on Wednesday. Weddings these days are all the rage and people go all out to create an ambience fit to welcome royalty.

A certain wedding in Sewali Path, along with over-the-top decorations, have gone a notch higher and placed a ‘No Entry’ sign on the middle of the road. This along with causing great inconvenience to the commuters has also irked the local residents.

Krishnanoy Saikia, a local resident of the area said, “On my way to office this morning, I found the ‘No Entry’ signs at Sewali Path and a home-guard asked me to re-direct my vehicle and commute through a different route. Where there is scarcity of traffic guards even in busy traffic points in the area, a home-guard has been stationed to monitor no-entry of vehicles in a very public road.” Another local resident who did not want to be named said, “Sewali Path is not a private block of land belonging to anyone. Everyone has the right to commute through that route and no wedding can cause such inconvenience to the people. We will not stand for it.”

Meanwhile, DCP Prasanta Saikia said that soon after they received complaints, they ensured that the ‘No Entry’ sign is removed because there is no rule that grants anyone to obstruct entry, without valid reason, into a public road.
