GUWAHATI: All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers' Association has cancelled the "North East Book Fair" that is held in January-February every year.
Addressing the media here on Thursday, association president Imran Ahmed said that due to congestion of events in the calendar of All India Book Fair and lack of response from publishers of other States they took the decision to cancel the book fair.
Ahmed alleged that no government fund was received from the government for the North East Book Fair. "Every year, we have to rely on sponsors and rentals from the book stalls," he said.
Others of the Association said that they would hold the North East Book Fair at the Institute of Engineering field at Chandmari here in November 2021. They appealed to the government to provide them space in Institute of Engineering field and provide funds every year.
