No politics with indigenous people: BASSA president Prabinjyoti Kalita to BJP

GUWAHATI: The Bhumi Adhikar Sangram Samittee, Assam (BASSA) slammed the government on Tuesday and claimed that there is a possibility that the ruling party will follow the ‘drama’ of distributing land pattas before the election. BASSA ‘warned the ruling party to not do such politics with the indigenous people that have no land pattas’.

Addressing a press meet at Guwahati Press Club, BASSA president Prabinjyoti Kalita said that the government is against the indigenous. Kalita said, “We warn the government to not indulge in any kind of politics in the name of providing land pattas to 40 lakh people and 85,000 families. We condemn their initiative of providing land pattas without coming into any kind of discussions with the organizations who have been fighting for this issue since a long time. The process is not for the actual applicants. They are not paying any attention to the actual applicants. Hence, some officials are working for a group of people with the help of middleman.”

Kalita said that the government is still not being able to prepare a map for many areas including 18 hills of Guwahati. He appealed the government to take the initiative of providing land pattas by following certain policies and by holding discussions with the organizations.

Kalita further called the chief minister as an ordinary man and said that people use to address him with respect because of his designation but his activities has downgraded his status.

BASSA also claimed that the government is trying to destroy the Assamese community and thus, it has hatched conspiracy to arrest certain anti-CAA activists. Further, the BASSA informed that it will stage a mass protest at Dispur Last gate on March 12 demanding the release of the anti-CAA activists.
