GUWAHATI: The Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabha, Assam (ITSSA) has rued the fact that the Prime Minister has not sent any of his Cabinet colleagues to Assam when the State has been badly reeling under floods.

In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, ITSSA secretary general Kamala Kanta Mushahary said, "The Prime Minister had a discussion with State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on floods, corona and Baghjan oil well blowout. Such telephonic conversations can't the solve problems of the people affected by floods. India is going to be a superpower. However, it has not been able to douse the blazing oil well in the past two months. What does it signify? OIL promised to compensate the affected the families, but stopped short of their rehabilitation. The Prime Minister often says to be with the people of Assam as and when the State reels under floods. But what measures has he taken to give a succour to the flood-affected people? We demand of the Prime Minister to make this public. Without any package for the flood-hit State and opting to hold telephonic talks won't solve the problems of the affected people."

The ITSSA is a joint literary body of the Bodos, Karbis, Rabhas, Garos, Tiwas, Deuris and the Dimasas.
