North East Legal Organization Demands Penal Statute on Mob Lynching

GUWAHATI: The North East Legal Organization (NELO) has appealed to the State government to enact a specific and strict penal statute to eradicate this social menace of mob lynching.

In an email sent to the Chief Minister, the NELO has underlined that Assam has no specific penal statute on mob lynching which exclusively deals with mob lynching as an offence.

"A specific and strict penal statute will aid in the intervention, prevention and to curb the social menace of mob lynching," the NELO stated in a release.

Furthermore, the NELO also appealed to the Chief Minister's Office to expedite the process of delivering justice to Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati, who was assaulted by a group of people in Hojai.
