North East Legal Organization (NELO) moves CM Sarbananda Sonowal for penal statute

GUWAHATI: The North East Legal Organization (NELO) has approached the Chief Minister of Assam through an email on June 3 and brought to his notice that Assam has no specific penal statute to exclusively deal mob lynching as an offence.

In a press release the NELO stated that as the instances of heinous offences of mob lynching are escalating day by day, it has requested the Chief him to look into the matter as a matter of utmost urgency.

Debajit Barman, secretary general of North East Legal Organization stated that this very step was taken so that a specific and strict penal statute is enacted by the State for intervention, prevention and curbing mob lynching.
