Noted Academician and Scholar Professor Parikshit Hazarika Passes Away

GUWAHATI: Noted academician and scholar professor Parikshit Hazarika passed away at the age of 85 on Friday. Born on 1934 in Nalbari, Hazarika cleared his masters in Assamese literature from Gauhati University in 1962. He then joined Kanoi College in Dibrugarh as a professor in 1963.

Parikshit Hazarika earned his doctorate degree from Dibrugarh University for his thesis The Beginnings of Assamese Novel and was the first to attain Phd from the university in Assamese literature. He later joined the Assamese department in Gauhati University from where he retired as the head of the department in 1998.

Books such as Axomia Probondho Manjuri, Aloxona Xahitya, Axomia fokora-jujona, Okhanto Ulka, Rajnikanta Bordoloir Uponyakh, among various others are credited to his name. The Chief Minister of Assam and Axom Xahitya Xabha deeply condoled the death of the acclaimed scholar.
