One held for posing as cop by Garchuk Police

GUWAHATI: The Garchuk Police apprehended a person for posing as police personnel from Garchuk Chariali on Thursday (February 25).

The person, identified as, Kulajyoti Baishya (23) a resident of Azara, was caught during regular police patrolling while he was riding on a motorcycle (Royal Enfield) bearing registration number — AS-01EL-7523 wearing police uniform of Assam police (Sub Inspector).

The police stated that the person behaved rudely with the police on duty and obstructed from lawful duties.

"Initially he introduced himself as a police personnel of Crime branch, Guwahati. After verification it came to light that the said person is not personnel of Assam Police. It is strongly suspected that he indulged himself in unlawful activities through his ill motives by impersonating himself as a police officer," the Garchuk Police said.

In this regard, a case has been registered at the PS under case number - 126/21 u/s- 171 /353/274(a)/419 IPC. The further investigation is on.
