GUWAHATI: Chairman of Assam Minorities Development Board Muminul Aowal has alleged that the Opposition is spreading false narratives that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government will shut down the madrasas of the State.
He said the religious madrasas will continue running in the State. But the State-run madrasas will be converted into regular schools.
"It is a practical decision of the government. This decision will bring a change in the education sector of which the students will be benefited. The names of the madrasas will be changed and general education curriculum will be introduced. Students who want to get religious education can enroll at private madrasas," Aowal said.
Further, he slammed the Opposition for spreading 'false narratives' among the masses.
"The Opposition is mainly trying to segregate the Muslim voters. Before this, various lower primary and upper primary schools were closed while some were merged. Then there was no controversy regarding it. However, due to the use of the word madrassa the opposition is trying to give the issue a communal colour," Aowal added.
