GUWAHATI: Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd (AFCSCL), a Government of Assam undertaking, has set a paddy procurement target of 60,000 MT during this kharif season. The farmers of the State will sell paddy at an MSP (Minimum Support Price) of Rs 1,868 per quintal as set by the Centre.

According to official sources, during the corresponding season in 2020, the Corporation could procure around 35,000 MT of paddy at an MSP of Rs 1,815 per quintal. That year, the Corporation could meet 79 per cent of its paddy procurement target.

So far this year, the Corporation has set up nine paddy procurement centres in the State – three each in Nagaon and Hojai, two in Morigaon and one in Darrang. The Corporation has sent a proposal to the government for the setting up of one paddy procurement centre each in Karbi Anglong and Barpeta.

Even though the Corporation was set up in 2014, it has been procuring paddy since 2020.
