GUWAHATI: State Forests and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidiya attended the inaugural ceremony of the 66th Wildlife Week at Assam State Zoo, Guwahati on Thursday. The programme commenced with the worship of elephants by the Minister. It was followed by a rally marched by the elephants and a tableau highlighting the importance animals and birds of Assam (prepared by Assam State Zoo). Assam State Zoo authority today also felicitated nature conservationists, journalists & noted dignitaries who are involved in the continuous awareness creation for the preservation of the Biodiversity of Assam. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister pressed on the importance of responsibilities towards nature by human beings and urged all to work in the greater interest of the society at large. The Minister also laid the foundation stone of a five-storey state-of-the-art complex that will be set up inside the zoo premises as the new divisional office of the zoo equipped with all necessary facilities, a library, a conference hall, etc. which will be established keeping in mind all nature conservancy aspects and eco-friendly technology, a press release said.
