GUWAHATI: Petrol and diesel prices have gone up again – for the seventh time in the last eight days.

Petrol today is dearer by Rs 0.89 per litre while diesel by Rs 0.74 per litre. In Guwahati, people will now have to shell out Rs 99.89 for one litre of petrol and Rs 85.90 for one litre of diesel.

The fuel price hike has been attributed to the surging rate of international crude oil due to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war. This is the seventh hike in the last eight days after a 137-day pause ahead of assembly elections in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Uttarakhand.

Hike in fuel prices always has a ripple effect on the prices of essential commodities and vegetables as transportation charges increase. This price hike is sure to overburden the common people who are slowly trying to recover from the economic damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. People have urged the State Government to take steps to control the price hike of essential commodities.
