GUWAHATI: Welcoming the decision to conduct an inquiry into the incident of physical assault to an ACS officer (an executive magistrate) in Kokrajhar by the Kokrajhar SP, the Assam Civil Service Officers’ Association raised the demand for immediate suspension of the SP and the DC, in front on whom the incident occurred, for the sake of an impartial inquiry. As a mark of protest, all ACS officers will perform their duty wearing black badges on Monday.
In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, the Association has appealed to the Chief Minister to ensure safety and security of ACS officers. At a special meeting held on Saturday, the Association demanded timely submission of the inquiry report and also demanded exemplary punishment to the guilty.
The Association of ALRS (Assam Land and Revenue Services) Officers has also condemned the incident and demanded justice to the executive magistrate.
Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh allegedly assaulted district executive magistrate Sailen Das inside a hotel complex in the midnight of September 10, 2019. The incident came to light after RTI activist Dulal Bora made it public on September 20.
The RTI activist on Saturday filed a case against at the Criminal Investigation of Department (CID) of the Assam Police in connection with the incident.
The entire incident was captured in the CCTV cameras of the hotel. The video of the incident has now gone viral on social media platforms.
