PIL seeking school fee waiver filed in Guwahati High Court

GUWAHATI: Bikash Sharma, a resident of Spanish Garden, RB Baruah Road, Guwahati has filed a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) in the Gauhati High Court seeking issuance of writ of mandamus for issuing direction to all the private/unaided schools under its jurisdiction to waive fees for the period till the schools are not fully operational due to the pandemic of COVID-19.

The petitioner sought the issue of a writ in the nature of mandamus or any other writ of like nature thereby passing an order directing all private/unaided schools under the jurisdiction of the High Court not to charge school fees/charges from children for a period from April 2020 till the schools become operational. The petitioner also prayed that the High Court pass an order directing all schools not to pressurize students or their parents to pay the fees/charges.
