Poll Preparedness: Assam Police forces joined by 33 Central Paramilitary Forces to ensure fair elections

Guwahati: DGP Kuladhar Saikia on Monday informed during a press meet at the Assam Police Headquarters that around 33 central para-military forces will be joining the existing 90 security forces under Assam Police for a smooth conduct of polling process in the forthcoming parliamentary election which will be held in three phases in the state - April 12, 18 and 23.

DGP Kuladhar Saikia had also stated that the presently deployed armed forces on NRC duty will not be included in the upcoming election duty.

“We are also working jointly coordinating with our neighbouring state's police and jointly conducting security-related duties along the border areas. Nakas have been installed in various parts of the state to check all anti-social activities, all police station of the state have been alerted to carry out patrolling in all vulnerable area and also to conduct sensitization programme in the respective area,” said DGP Saikia.

On the other hand, speaking to the media, ADGP (Law and Order), Mukesh Agarwal informed that since the model code of conduct took effect in the state, more than 20,000 licensed arms have been surrendered before Assam Police and seized around 32 different illegal firearms from various parts of the state during patrolling duties, Naka checkings etc.

It may be mentioned that Assam Police Cyber Cell is also keeping an eye in the social media sites in order to maintain a law and order situation in the region ahead of the ensuing general elections.
