GUWAHATI: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Friday debunked a message which claimed that the Central government had modified the rules of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The PIB's response came after the news went viral on social media.

The PIB through its Twitter handle said that the claim is fake and the Centre has not notified any such rules.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (eel), of Section 18 of the Citizenship Act 1955 (57 of 1955), the Central Government hereby makes the following Rules, namely – 1. Short Title and commencement — (1) This Rules may be called THE CITIZENSHIP (AMENDMENT) RULES, 2020. (2) It shall come into force on the date of its publication by Notification in the Official Gazette of India," stated the viral message circulating on social media.
