GUWAHATI: With the recent reports of formalin in fish, there has been a decrease in the rate of imported fish and an increase in the rate of local fish. This is due to the lower import of fish from Bihar, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, etc. Local fish prices have increased from Rs 800 to Rs 1200 per kg.

Rahul Das, a person working in the private sector, said not only fish but also the prices of chicken and vegetables are also rising.

The government is not paying any attention to these problems. The main victims of this are the poor and middle-class people. For them, it turns out to be a question of survival.

According to a fish vendor, "The import of chalani fish has been stopped, but we still get fish stocks from Barpeta, Hajo, etc., but the quantity has decreased." "Also, the prices of the fish are increasing as we have to pay the owners some profit for ourselves."

Another fish vendor said in the wholesale market in the Hatigaon and Sijubari areas, the rates are the same.

According to one of the commoners, "the government does not have proper planning for the management of prices. Since the last two years, everything has been on a cliff, and nothing has been sorted. The middle-class families are the worst sufferers, while the upper class need not have to worry, and the lower classes get their BPL cards."

For instance, the price rise for local rohu fish, which was Rs 380 or Rs 400 in some places, has increased to Rs 500. The Bhokuwa fish, whose price was Rs 500, is now Rs 700. The price of Aari, which was Rs 100, now turns out to be Rs 200.
