GUWAHATI: One person was detained in connection with suspected murder of a temple priest at Railway Colony in Paltanbazar area of the city.
On the midnight of Thursday, the body of the priest identified as Narayan Chakraborty (45)was found at a quarter of railway Colony in mysterious condition.
The body bore injury marks in its head.
The body was found at a resident of a person Sanjiv Choudhury. According to the report, Chakrabarty, a priest of Paltanbazar Kali Mandir,was asked to look after the house in absence of Sanjiv.
His body was found wrapped in a blanket on bed.
Police have registered a case no 370/2021 in Latasil police station under section 302 of IPC in connection with the incident.
Police detained a neighbourSatyanaranBasorfor questioning. The police also grilled priest's wife in this connection.
Sanjiv Choudhury is a railway employee and had gone to Dhubri, his hometown, along with his family to celebrate Chaath Puja. It is suspected that the victim have been hit by a blunt object on his head, leading to his death.
Chakrabarty was working as a priest for 11 years in the Kali Mandir.
