Guwahati: Demanding the immediate release of the Republic TV Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami, hundreds of people marched to Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.
The protest march on Sunday saw a large number of people led by film stars, singers, cultural activists, academicians and xatradhikars under the Xocheton Nagarik Mancha, a non-governmental organisation of Assam. The NGO was established in 2015 and works in various sectors including gender, human rights, health, employment and so on. The protesters marched towards Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati to protest against Indian National Congress in Maharastra. They demanded the immediate release of journalist Arnab Goswami.
Assam Finance, Health, Education and PWD Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma shared pictures of the protest march on his official Twitter handle. He wrote, "#AssamWithArnab Hundreds of people led by filmstars, singers, cultural activists, acamedics and xatradhikars under Xocheton Nagarik Mancha joined a march to Rajiv Bhawan in Ghy as symbolic protest against @INCIndia in #Maharashtra. They demand immediate release of #ArnabGoswami"
Protests have also erupted in the other parts of the country after the arrest of Arnab Goswami on November 4. Goswami was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide of Anvey Nayak, who was a vendor to Republic TV.He and two others owed an amount of Rs 5 crore to Nayak.
Earlier on Sunday, Goswami was shifted from Alibag to Taloja Central Jail in Navi Mumbai for security reasons.
