Provide land to landless for PMAY-G houses: P&RD to DCs

39,694 beneficiaries are landless

GUWAHATI: Despite being eligible in all other aspects, some people in Assam do not get houses under the PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin) as they are landless.

The P&RD (Panchayat and Rural Development Department) cannot provide houses to such landless people.

The PMAY-G is a flagship scheme of the Government of India that aims at providing housing for all by 2022.

To give such landless people safe roofs overhead, the Commissionerate of P&RD has written letters to the deputy commissioners to provide land to the landless people so that the department can cover them under the PMAY-G scheme. A house under the PMAY-G needs at least ten lessas of land.

Till June-end this year, Assam had 7,89,654 beneficiaries under the PMAY-G. The houses of 4,14,488 of the beneficiaries got completed, and 2,99,047 houses are under construction. As many as 76,119 houses have not got sanction, and of them 39,694 people are landless ones.

The data of the landless people are available with the CEOs (Chief Executive Officers) of Zila Parishads and the Project Directors of the DRDA (District Rural Development Agencies). The State P&RD wants the completion of the PMAY-G houses for the 39,694 landless people by December 2021 provided they get land.
