PSSA Stages Protest Over Non-Recruitment of PwDs (Persons with Disabilities)

GUWAHATI: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) staged a protest outside the Directorate of Secondary Education over the laidback attitude in releasing the backlog posts for the PwDs (Persons with Disabilities) in various departments, including the secondary education department.

PSSA secretary Nripen Malakar stated that on October 5, 2018, the sangstha held a meeting with the Assam government over the backlog posts for the PwDs in various departments. “On the same year on October 9, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Cabinet decided to fill up the backlog posts of the PwDs in 54 departments, the responsibility of which was entrusted on the Assam Police Recruitment Board (APRB). Each department was provided a week to notify APRB about the number of vacant posts, which only 23 departments submitted,” said Malakar.

“On December 21, 2018, the PSSA had another discussion with the Chief Minister when he issued the same instruction a second time. Seven months have passed since then and the departments have still not informed about the back-log posts for the PwDs,” said Malakar.

Malakar further informed that in the secondary education department, a total of 2364 teacher’s posts and 534 III and IV grade posts are lying vacant, however, the department has informed about only 20 such posts to the APRB. He also stated that in a similar manner, the elementary education department also has notified about only 85 vacant posts against the actual 3752 in various categories.

During the ongoing protest, the secondary education department commissioner secretary Preetom Saikia was contacted by Malakar through a higher police official and the protest ceased after assurance of a meeting on September 2. “We demand that the back-log posts for the PwDs are filled up at the earliest. If the meeting with the secondary education department commissioner secretary Preetom Saikia does not yield results, we will resume protest,” said Malakar.
