GUWAHATI: Vegetarian asymptomatic COVID-19 positive people in the city on Sunday heaved a sigh of relief when the Director of Health Services, Assam Dr. Rathindra Bhuyan inaugurated the first pure vegetarian COVID Care Centre (CCC) at Hotel Rituraj here.

Dr. Bhuyan said the vegetarian asymptomatic COVID patients would now have a choice to come and stay at Hotel Rituraj under the care of a team of doctors and other paramedics along with medicines, oxygen etc., provided by the State Health department.

He said it has been found that almost 5% to 10% COVID-19 positive patients are vegetarian and in other CCC's the patients are being provided food of their choice, be it rice or chapatis or veg or non veg.

Dr. Bhuyan said the State Government is only providing healthcare and medicines to the patient staying at Hotel Rituraj. Patients will have to pay for the room and food etc., to the hotel owner, he said.

Dr. Bhuyan said in case of any emergency the patients from CCC at the hotel will be shifted to nearby COVID hospitals.

Mahabir Jain, president of Kamrup Chamber of Commerce thanked the Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for opening the pure vegetarian CCC at such a short notice.
