GUWAHATI: The TET-qualified but deprived of recruitment Person with Disabilities (PwD) job seekers gheraoed the office of the Directorate of Elementary Education on Thursday in support of their demands. These job seekers have already undergone the medical examination twice.

The education department has issued advertisements for 487 posts in primary and upper primary schools, which are reserved for differently-abled candidates. 579 PwD candidates applied for these posts, and out of all these, 286 passed the medical test. But even after passing the medical test for four months, they still did not get an appointment.

The job seekers, under the leadership of Pratibandhi Suraksha Sanstha, Assam (PSSA), Secretary Nripen Malakar, staged a protest from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. After the mass protest, the director of elementary education had a discussion with the protestors and promised to recruit the candidates before the Durga Puja. On the other hand, Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu said in front of the media that the selection process is already done and that these candidates will be appointed within a month.
