GUWAHATI: A special team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) is constituted to conduct a massive drive against the miscreants involved in the theft of passengers’ belongings in Guwahati Railway station.

Since the drive, the team has apprehended four people in connection with the theft of passengers belongings. Moon Saikia of Nagaon was apprehended on August 21 with a mobile phone, and the GRP registered a case (148/23 u/s 379 IPC) against him. On August 23, Megharaj Chetry of Lakhimpur was arrested with a stolen backpack, and the GRP registered a case (153/23 u/s 379 IPC) against him. On August 24, Biki Sharma of Jagiroad was arrested with a stolen mobile phone, and the Panbazar Police Station registered a case (221/23 u/s 379/411 IPC) against him. On Saturday, Safiqur Rahaman of Hajo was apprehended with a stolen mobile phone, and the GRP registered a case (155/2023 u/s 380 IPC) against him.

Further, in the last few days, RPF Guwahati recovered 89 bottles of liquor (IMFL) as unclaimed from a train at Guwahati Railway Station and later handed them over to the Excise Department, Guwahati, for further legal process. In this regard, a case (GR/EX-13/2023) has been registered, on August 16. The RPF also conducts drives against unauthorized people entering Guwahati Railway Station to prevent miscreant activities.
