GUWAHATI: Under the banner of Pratibandi Suraksha Sangstha (PSS), a team gheraoed the office of the New Treasury Officer on Tuesday.

Secretary of the Sangstha, Nripen Malakar stated in a press release that the agitation was owing to the stalling of ex gratia payment under the Dindayal Bibanga Pension Asoni for the differently-abled section of the society. The scheme was implemented by the Chief Minister on January 10, 2019 and on March 12, a bill amount of Rs 29 crore 54 lakh and 60 thousand the Social Welfare Department transported to the New Treasury Office. However, the fund froze in the office when on May 11, the Sangstha in a press meet, extended seven days towards the government for the release of funds.

The Sangstha did not receive a response due to which, the Treasury Office was gheraoed on Tuesday by members of the union. Later, in the presence of Chandmari police, the Treasury Officer assured to release the funds as soon as possible after a assembly with the higher authorities.
