The citizens of the locality alleged that the field which was given a facelift by spending lakhs of rupees at the mercy of local MLA and Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in 2010 is allowed to hold marriages and other non-sporting functions in exchange of money as rentals leading the field to its current pathetic plight.

Apart from the playground, the educational atmosphere in the four educational institutions located near the field in the area is affected by these non-sporting events. Even there have been cases of students of the nearby schools getting injured because of the nails, pieces of wood left out on the field after every non-sporting programmes in the field.
