GUWAHATI: Guwahati received 81.5 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, which falls under the 'heavy rain' category, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) here said on Thursday.
The RMC in Guwahati has predicted "extremely heavy rainfall" over the next few days and as such the situation in the city is expected to deteriorate further and more people may be forced to take shelter in relief camps. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued 'Red Alert' for Assam and Meghalaya and predicted isolated and scattered "extremely heavy rainfall" till Saturday and issued 'Orange Alert' for Sunday and Monday.
The RMC also predicted that thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rain are very likely to continue in parts of Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Darrang, Udalguri, Baksa, Barpeta, Chirang, Nalbari, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Goalpara, Dhubri, South Salmara, Morigaon and Sonitpur districts during the next 24 hours.
