GUWAHATI: It is quite common to read reports in the media on the non-submission of financial accounts in time before the public by some Rongali Bihu celebration committees. But here is an exception.
This Rongali Bihu organizing committee has published the details of its accounts in its printed invitation card. Besides, it has also added two more programmes on two separate dates? These two unique programs are 'review meeting' and 'submission of accounts' which can never be found in the programmes of other organizing committees.
The 'Dakkhin Borsojai Maidam Durga Mandir Management Committee' in the city this year celebrated its second Rongali Bihu celebration with a three-day-long programme on April 14, 16 and 17. The programmes were chalked out especially in view of the COVID-19 protocols.
The invitation letter states that a meeting will be held on the fourth day to review the celebration, and the programme would concluded with dinner. A special and unique program has been featured at 4 pm on May 9. It will be entirely dedictaed to the single agenda of submission of expenditure accounts.
"We have celebrated the Rongali Bihu for the second year taking the maximum precaution in view of the COVID-19 protocol. Instead of the common competitions on traditional Bihu dance and song, we have organized games and drawing competitions for the children," said Dhaneswar Deka, secretary of the Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee while talking to The Sentinel.
The secretary of 'Dakkhin Borsojai Maidam Durga Mandir Management Committee' Hiren Kumar Saharia added, "As the celebration has been smoothly organized with the cooperation and financial assistance of the donors and well wishers, it is our social responsibility to submit the accounts of expenditure before the public in time. Hence, we have convened a meeting on May 9 with a mention of the meeting in our invitation letters.
"On Sunday evening, we shall review the celebration of Rongali Bihu to check all commission and omissions." they added.
