Rs 2.5-Crore Budget For Ambubachi Mela

GUWAHATI: The biggest religious fair, the Ambubachi Mela is supposed to start from June 22 till 26 in the city and a budget of Rs 2.5 crore has been approved for the event.

Congregation of lakhs of devotees from various parts of the country are expected to pour into the city. The task of ensuring the cleanliness of the city, the Kamakhya Devalaya premises and the camps have been entrusted to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).

There are three roads leading into the temple premises and GMC has been directed to ensure proper lighting on these roads, fix the broken street lamps, erect new ones if needed and arrange for additional lights. GMC Commissioner Debesyar Malakar visited the sites on Tuesday and supervised the ongoing works undertaken by the department.

The GMC pipe water supply has been increased this year. This supply is supposed to reach all the devotees' camps as well. The GMC has arranged a 24-hour cleaning service. This will be done in three shifts with a 10-member group and a supervisor each. The bulk of the tasks assigned to the GMC are under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Dwijen Singh who has assured that the entire work undertaken by GMC will be completed by June 19.
