GUWAHATI: With Dispur targeting to inoculate Covid vaccines to three lakhs people daily, there is a heavy rush of people to vaccination centres across the State sparking fear of Covid infection.

"Even though my centre is strictly adhering to Covid-19 safety protocols while carrying out vaccination drive, a section of beneficiaries are not following all protocols. Majority of them crowd the vaccination centres without any reason. Some often take off their masks. Such behaviour of the people is a cause of worry and carry risk of possible infection," a Health Department official in charge of vaccination centre in the city said.

Heavy rush and crowding at vaccination centres are being witnessed at tea gardens areas and remote villages. Many centres in Guwahati are also witnessing the same.

Senior Health department official Munindra Nath Ngatey who is also the spokesperson of Assam Government's vaccination drive said the people should not hurry as it could result in Covid infection. He said the government has adequate stock of vaccines and the people should come to take their vaccines shots in their allotted schedules.
