GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) held a steering committee meeting on Sunday in the discussion about the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016. The SAKP has thoroughly criticized the move of the Central Government and has opposed the Bill. The Parishad has earnestly asked the BJP led Government to withdraw the decision.

“The Bill is against the interests of the Assamese people. It is anti-Assamese culture and anti-Assamese language. It will push the Assamese people to a minority in their own state”, said the Parishad while observing that the Bill can eradicate the secularity of religion provided by the constitution.

In 2016, BJP and its alliances commented that the Assembly Elections of the state is the second war of Sarighat but the Assamese people have come to realise that the present condition actually is the second war of Sarighat. The NRC update is in the process and the Central Government has proposed the Bill around the same time truly testing the indigenous people of Assam.

SAKP has accused the BJP led government of providing Assam as an abode to the Bangladeshis and further commented, “Assam is not a grazing field for foreigners.”

In the steering meeting, the SAKP decided to support AASU’s decision of bandh on January 8 and Trade Union’s strike on 8 and 9 January.

The Parishad observed, ‘If the government does not cancel the Citizenship Amendment Bill-2106, there will be pandemonium in the entire region of Assam.” They concluded by reinstating their unwavering support for AASU which has been glued strong since the Assam Agitation for six years (1979-1985) and has assured that it will continue in the future.

Meanwhile, the AASU bandh regarding the Bill has also been consented by Pratibandhi Sureksha Sangstha, Axom.
