GUWAHATI: Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) secretary general Mrinal Das passed away due to COVID-19 on May 15.

As per source, Das breathed his last at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at 7:00 AM.

It is to be mentioned here that Mrinal Das was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) due to COVID-19 on May 9.

Meanwhile Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himnata Biswa Sarma conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Mrinal Das.

"Apart from his work of strengthening the Karmachari Parishad, Das also worked for the welfare for all the Karmacharis of the state," the CM added.

It is to be mentioned here that Das was associated with Assam Agitation and also with the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and the Organizational Secretary of Nalbari Students Union.

Notably in 1987, Das joined the Health and Family Welfare Department in Assam and also associated with various other organization posts.

In the year 2010 Das started his association with SAKP and in January 2020 we has elected as the secretary general.

Apart from his social works, Das was also an established actor and played in several dramas, feature film, television serial also.

Few of the movies where he acted was- Dhunia Tirutabur, Samiran Barua Ahi Ase, Ji Golpo Sesh Nai, Sunor Kharu Nalage Muk, Khiriki Mukhor Alohi, Borolakai and Tirthajatra.among others.

Meanwhile, the Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad's President Prodeep Dutta conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

"Mrinal Das was a very instrumental person in the Parishad and we are sad of his demise," the Dutta added. Notably, the last rites of Mrinal Das were carried away at the Ulubari Shamshan (Cremation Ground) as per COVID protocol.

All Assam Students Union, Northeast Students Organization (NESO) Assam State Primary Teachers Association, Assam High School (Newly Provincialised), Retires and Teachers Association, All Assam Pharmacist Service Association among other organizations paid their last tribute to the departed soul.

Mrinal Das leaves behind his wife and two children.
