Sadou Asom Devalay Sangha welcomes Cattle Preservation Bill

GUWAHATI: President and principal secretary of Sadou Asom Devalay Sangha (SADS) Suresh Ch. Bhattacharya and Kailash Sarma has welcomed the Assam Cattle Preservation Bill 2021 introduced in the Assam Assembly on July 12 by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The president and principal secretary of SADS said that as per followers of the world's oldest religion i.e. Sanatana Dharma, the cow is treated as 'Gomata' (mother) since the time of 'Satyayug'.

The president and the principal secretary said that there is an imperative need to enact legislation to include more legal provisions to regulate the slaughter and consumption of cattle by repealing the existing Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 1950.

Bhattacharya and Sarma also said that the Devalay Sangha respects the religious beliefs and customs of a section of the society. They requested the government to protect the identity of that section of people under the law if possible. They also requested the Chief Minister to open Gosalas across the State with qualified youths to protect the abandoned, seized and old-aged cattle.

Lastly, the SADS appealed to all the Opposition parties in Assam to support the tabled Cattle Protection Bill in the Assembly irrespective of their differences.
