GUWAHATI: The National Academy of Letters, Sahitya Akademi organized a webinar on trends in Assamese short stories of young writers under its YuvaSahitiprogramme here on Tuesday. The webinar was hosted by DevendraDabesh, secretary of Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata office and attended by story writer JuriBaruah, literary critic and writer BhaskarJyotiNath and poets Biva Rani Talukdar and UtpalDeka. Critic BhaskarJyoti delivered a speech on the emerging trends in short stories of young Assamese writers and stressed on the latest development in the art of storytelling in Assamese literature. While short story writer JuriBaruah recited her story, poets Biva Rani Talukdar and UtpalDeka recited their poems.
Poet UtpalDeka depicted the communal divide in his poem Samprodayik. In his poem 'corporate men' he ponders on the challenges brought by the capitalism. Young poet Biva Rani Talukdar in her poem dwells on the intricacies in her quest for poetic theme in 'Bhavjotani'.
Promising short story writer JuriBaruah explored the complicacies in human relation in the back drop of lockdown during COVID-19 pandemic in her short story Prakton. Literary critic BhaskarJyotiNath added that socio political consciousness is the hall mark of the literary craftsmanship of Juri Borah. Secretary of AkademiDevendraDebesh stated that such program of multiple literary genres can be compared to reading of vivid news item and articles in a single newspaper.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the secretary of the Sahitya Akademi, stated a release.
