Sarba Siksha Abhijan (SSA) Assam Training Centre Workers Demand Job Security

GUWAHATI: The Sadou Assam Residential Special Training Centre Workers' Association has submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister demanding job security for the workers.

It is to be noted that the Residential Special Training Centres are operating under the Sarba Siksha Abhijan (SSA). In these centres, poverty-stricken children like beggars, dropouts, domestic helpers, child labourers are being educated. The workers of these centres were appointed through interviews on a merit basis from different districts of the State. However, despite working for 24 hours, they receive minimal remuneration from the SSA.

While the Siksha Sewaks/Sewikas receive Rs 7,500 per month, the Grade IV employees receive Rs 5,500.

Sarba Siksha Abhijan Workers Demands

Now, through the memorandum they have made the following demands —

• The workers working since 2003 should get permanent jobs based on their experience without appearing for TET (Teacher Eligibility Test).
• The retirement age of the workers should be extended to 60 years and they should be paid deserving salaries.
• Immediate financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for a worker's family if he/she dies during service.
