Sarothi observes World Disability Day in Bhagabatipara

GUWAHATI: Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakaty, Director Students' Welfare, Gauhati University said that "disability is a very sensitive issue which needs attention from each and every field of the society. The specially-abled persons always carry with them emotional and sentimental impasses due to their limitation'.

Dr. Kakaty said this while speaking as the chief guest at the observation of the World Disability Day in Bhagabatipara in Kamrup, organized by Sarothi in association with SAKSHAM, North Assam Chapter on Thursday.

"The specially-abled people form a sizable section of our populations and this socially disadvantage community has promising creative and productive abilities and he has sighted several successful instances where in specially able person have done exceedingly commendable work in their professional life in spite of their physical limitations," said Dr Kakaty.

Addressing the conference Dr Arup Jyoti Kalita, Director CPASS and honorary joint secretary of SAKSHAM, North Assam Chapter, said that if a person with disability is present in a family whole family is affected and that way more than 12 crore people population are affected by disability in India.

He made a detailed presentation on the disability scenario in the entire state and he stressed the fact that the attitude of the society is primarily responsible for the pathetic conditions of the specially-abled persons in the society.

Dr. Arup Jyoti Kalita also enlightened the participants about the scenario of disabilities in Assam and the initiatives of SAKSHAM, a press release said.
