Satej Assam Introduces Readymade Mejis in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Satej Assam has made it easy for the people of Guwahati to celebrate this MaghBihu in its traditional way by making readymade Mejis.

The unavailability of space and raw materials in Guwahati city inspired the owner of Satej Assam Babul Chetia to come up with this plan. Different types of Mejis can be seen in the Satej Assam store located at UlubariTiniali Nursery.

The Mejis come in three different sizes ranging from Rs.2,000 to Rs.1,200. Raw materials like bamboo, hay, straw, ropes were brought from Sonapur and from villages. "It took around 9 hours to make a Meji and daily around 10 Mejis were being sold," stated by the owner.

A total 4 people have been engaged in this work along with the owner.

Meji is a cone-shaped structure made of bamboo, hay, banana leaves and such materials which is set in fire in the morning of the Bihu. People pray at the bonfire for the well being of their family members.
