GUWAHATI: The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) arrested one more person in connection with the scam of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

According to sources, the CM’s SVC arrested Sonmoni Nath after interrogating him about his role in the scam. Sonmoni Nath is an employee of the District Institution of Information and Training (DIET), Howly, in the Barpeta district. According to sources, Sonmoni Nath took Rs 2 lakh from Sewali Devi Sarma. Meanwhile, another person, Manoj Das, was also being interrogated for his role in the scam, and he was later released.

It may be mentioned that alleged financial anomalies and fund misappropriation to the tune of Rs 105 crore took place in SCERT, Assam, in the name of offering a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) course under Open Distance Learning (ODL). The alleged financial irregularities took place between 2017 and 2022. Sewali Devi Sarma and two others were arrested in Ajmer, Rajasthan.
