GUWAHATI: After the successful conduct of the spoken English test for the students of Class X, the SEBA (Board of Secondary Education, Assam) is contemplating holding such tests for the students of Class IX by January 2023.

In a notification, SEBA said that it conducted the online spoken English test for the students of Class X on October 28 and 29, 2022. As many as 3,32,642 students of Class X students took the test.

According to the notification, the SEBA will take the internal assessment (IA) marks of English from the central test, either appearing online or offline by the students, successfully for the HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) examination, 2023.

The SEBA asked the schools that have conducted spoken English tests offline to evaluate the answers and submit the marks obtained to the office of the Inspectors of Schools. It said that the SEBA's member-secretary of its regional office would collect the marks and submit them to the SEBA, Guwahati by November 15, 2022. The SEBA will add this mark with the IA marks of the students concerned.

SEBA requested all English teachers of class X to conduct frequent online tests to improve the English communication skill of the students. It said that the schools should hold a revisionary test of spoken English before the pre-board examination.

For Class IX students, SEBA said that a spoken English App would be available shortly. SEBA requested all schools to give passwords to the Class IX students as soon as SEBA provided them.

Regarding the internal assessment marks of spoken English of the half-yearly examination of Class IX and Class X, SEBA requested the schools to make internal assessments of their students as done earlier and upload the marks in the portal.
